Stop thinking about artworks as objects and start thinking about them as triggers for experiences. What makes a work of art good for you is not something that is already inside it but something that happens inside of you.

About

Amanda Petrozzini is a mixed media collage artist, arts administrator, and creative wellness facilitator based in Portland, Maine. Collage is her primary art form, chosen for its accessibility, fluidity, and limitless potential for color, texture, and shape. For Amanda, art making has been a deeply personal practice, helping her to return to herself in times of chaos and transition. Through an intuitive, process-driven approach, Amanda’s work transforms energy and emotions, guiding creative exploration as a means for growth. She believes self-care is a form of collective care and creative practices can help us feel more grounded and able to show up in an often intense world.

With a passion for making art accessible to all, Amanda has spent years working at the intersection of art and mental wellness. She co-founded Double House Arts Collective, an inclusive program for artists with and without disabilities, and is currently developing creative wellness workshops both locally and online. These workshops will invite participants to explore art as a tool for stress reduction, emotional release, play, and connection.

Artist Statement:

Collage is a therapeutic practice for me, offering a sense of calm as I cut, arrange, and play with shapes and textures. I love bringing brightness to everyday life through vibrant colors, using them to uplift my mood and create joy. I often make my own papers, reuse old artworks, and incorporate recycled materials from around the house—receipts, envelopes, ticket stubs, and book pages—encouraging resourcefulness and creativity. This practice reflects my belief in reimagining discarded objects and aligns with my commitment to collective care, where sharing art becomes a generative act. By sharing creativity, we move away from the idea of art as a competitive or scarce resource, embracing its potential to foster connection and healing. For me, creating art is about more than the final product—it’s a way to nourish the spirit, relieve stress, and cultivate balance in everyday life.
